A safe capture checklist

  1. Choose an encounter with enemy types the game allows you to capture; do not assume every story target, vehicle, elite, or boss is valid.
  2. Bring the target down without finishing it. Stop damage-over-time and uncontrolled squad fire when the capture window matters.
  3. Switch to the capture system shown by the current HUD. Community answers use different control descriptions, so trust the live binding prompt over an old guide.
  4. Confirm that Capture Rounds remain. A missing action can be an ammunition or target-state problem rather than a permanent unlock loss.
  5. Attempt capture. The official July 22 notes confirm bad-luck protection after repeated failures, but the threshold and probability formula are not published.
  6. Return to the colony and process the captive through the Prison workflow.

Why player answers conflict

Two launch-week Steam threads contain different explanations for the capture input, health threshold, ammunition tier, and failure causes. They prove strong demand, not a stable formula. The interface and tutorial also changed repeatedly before launch. This page therefore separates official mechanics from community troubleshooting.

Is there bad-luck protection?Yes; repeated failed attempts eventually guarantee success.Official July 22 update.
What exact HP threshold is required? Not published.Conflicting community reports.
What is the pity count? Not published.Official note gives no number.
Can every enemy be captured? No universal claim is supported.Target matrix needs current-build testing.

Next verification target

A screenshot-backed target matrix should record enemy name, location, public build, capture prompt state, ammunition, successful/failed attempts, and post-capture result. Until that exists, exact percentage claims remain excluded.
